Planned Maintenance for Medical Equipment
Planned maintenance (PM) it’s a functionality and inspection test of medical equipment. It is vital that medical devices used in the Healthcare Industry should be periodically inspected and serviced to avoid equipment failures. The tests can be functionality, whereas other equipment may require more extensive services such as, lubrication of moving parts, wear part replacements due to age and usage, software and hardware updates, etc.
Properly maintained medical devices are safe for patients and medical staff. With annually, semiannually or quarterly planned maintenance problems can be detected early before the equipment breaks or malfunctions.
Routine maintenance can help your healthcare facility function more efficiently. Taking proactive approach can help you save time and money. Equipment failures can be costly, however if the problem is found early, it can be fixed before the issue becomes worse.
Electrical Safety Inspections
Electrical safety inspections it is an onsite inspection. Medical equipment that have electrical cord that comes in contact with patients or used in patient areas specially in wet areas like operating rooms must pass an annual biomedical electrical safety test. This inspection which consists about the measurement of the current flow in the ground wire must comply with NFPA99 specifications.
The results of these inspections are then recorded in a sticker and put on the equipment for easy view of the inspector or personnel of the department. All equipment information; model, serial number, equipment type and test data is written in a report and given upon request.
